The 212 Select team of Park City, participated in the World Lacrosse Championships this past week at the pristine fields of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.
The team was very impressive. The boys’ in black and carolina blue cruised into the semi-final round of the playoffs, outscoring their opponents 75 to 5. Summarizing the playoffs, Utah Elite, fell in their second playoff game to the #19 seed ADVNC out of Northern California. 3D Select 2017 easily moved into the finals. Madlax Nationals beat a tough 3D Select 2018 team and then routed ADVNC, setting up a showdown between Madlax Nationals and 212 in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals proved to be another historic moment for 212 Lacrosse. The Madlax National Team is comprised of the best 25 players from ALL their regional Madlax programs, hailing from Maryland, Virginia, California, Florida, Texas and Canada.
212 was too tough for the Madlax National Team, winning 9-8 and advancing to the World Championship finals. Their opponent in the finals, 3D Select 2017, crushed the tournaments #1 seed 18-1. 3D is our nation’s largest most successful club lacrosse program, spanning the US and Canada. The loaded 3D Select team, featuring 2 of the tournament’s best players (headed to Virginia & Notre Dame), was too much to handle and 212 finished runners-up, losing 7-12.
Overall, 212 finished #2 out of 31 teams with 7 wins, 1 loss and scored 134 goals while allowing 29 at this year’s largest club lacrosse tournament.
212 founder Mike Acee reiterated a theme of the program over the last 15 months. “212 continues to play for two former teammates of mine at North Carolina, Neill Redfern (battling cancer) and Eric Seremet (recently widowed). The message for the kids to play for someone other than themselves is unifying and they all continue to play very hard for Eric and Neill. I’m extremely proud of all the 212 kids. As always, a big thank you to the entire 212 Lacrosse community. The support the parents show myself and our staff continues to be tremendous. I’d also like to thank all of our coaches; Fred Acee (Team USA), Court Durling (D1- Virginia), Brian Bilzi (D1- Manhattan College), and Ben Andrew (D1- Johns Hopkins). Thank you to US Lacrosse for organizing the largest club tournament of the year.”
212 Lacrosse, is based in Park City, Utah. 212 is led by Mike Acee, who has more than 30 years of experience playing and coaching lacrosse. “212 continues to play for two former teammates of mine at North Carolina, Neill Redfern (battling cancer) and Eric Seremet (recently widowed). Our kids break every huddle with “S14”. The acronym stands for Eric’s last name and Neill’s number at Carolina. I’d also like to thank all of our coaches; Brian Bilzi (D1- Manhattan College), Court Durling (D1- Virginia), Chantz Hower, Christian Pompoco, Alec Meyer, Michael Burbank, Craig Cordial, Bryan Davis, Pete Iacobelli, and Adam Procino. We’d also like to thank Hall of Fame coach Fred Acee for coming to Utah the week before the tournament to coach all of our teams. Also, thank you to the Utah Lacrosse Association for putting on a great event.”
