212 EXPECTATIONS

Players must understand the team is above the individual, we succeed together:

  • Please arrive dressed and ready to go 1 hour before the first tournament game and 30 minutes before subsequent games when possible.

·      Players & Parents – No talking to officials.

·      At each game players must line up bags in an orderly fashion. All belongings must remain in bags unless being used. Players, not Parents, are responsible for carrying their bags and are responsible for ensuring they have all their necessary equipment.  Before you leave for games,  be sure you have everything.  Parents are not responsible for their player’s equipment.

·      Be respectful and courteous to others.  Those who put on a 212 jersey represent our culture and must uphold a strong code of conduct.  All players are to be good sportsmen and sports women and understand that it’s a privilege to be in their position.

·      Maintain a positive atmosphere in all circumstances.  Encourage teammates and other 212 players and coaches.  Players will always be positive to each other, congratulate each other when we succeed as a team and never place blame for team losses or mistakes.  Be happy for your teammate when they do something well. Tell them they had a great game.  NEVER belittle another player on this team or any other team. No matter the outcome, we win with class and we lose with class.

·      At the end of each game we will always “get” our goalies, give the opposing team a cheer and look opposing players in the eyes and shake hands respectfully. Players failure to conduct themselves in a respectful way on or off the field will have consequences.

·      Following games, players are to clean up their belongings and any trash that may have accumulated throughout the game.

·      During game play, every player must be focused and encouraging their teammates.  All players must be in a line organized and ready to sub into the game. There is no sitting on the sideline or taking a knee, unless injured.  Our bench is just at important as our players on the field.

·      Do everything 100%. As coaches, we put our teams in the best possible position to have success.  We fully expect each individual to submit themselves, regardless of the circumstance, to the best of their abilities.

·      Play fast, share the ball, HAVE FUN and RESPECT THE GAME.  

·     Be a good teammate – we are here for each other and we expect your full commitment EVERYDAY.  Thank you.

Support Quinn Buczek’s Fight Against Leukemia

My former UNC teammates son and future Ute, Quinn Buczek has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL.  This type of cancer has the highest survivor rate among leukemia patients, especially children.  So, the long term prognosis is good.  The next few weeks will shed more light on the course of action and timetable for recovery.

Today Q has several procedures to begin his treatment..  He had a port inserted under his breast bone for chemotherapy, which will begin tomorrow.  He also has a bone marrow biopsy and a blood transfusion.  Following the first chemo treatment tomorrow, he will remain at Children’s for 5 – 7 days to see how he reacts to the treatment.  If all goes well, he will be allowed to go home for a week or so before his next round.  From there it all depends on how his body reacts to the chemotherapy.  If he tolerates it, he will spend more time at home.
Several people have inquired about a possible fund to help offset the medical costs for the Buczek family.  I can tell you that there will be a fund set up on YouCaring.com in the next few days.  We are just trying to figure out exactly what costs are covered by insurance and what ancillary expenses they might need help with.  I will set up the site and send out an email as soon as we have a handle on the target goal of the funds to be raised.
Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers.  There is much to be done but no better group to meet the challenge than the Buczek’s and their extended Tar Heel family!

Player Spotlight: UNC Commit Kimber Hower

Tell me a little about yourself. When did you start playing lacrosse? What do you love about the game? Who are your role models? Or what inspires you in the classroom and on the field?

I started playing around the fifth grade with my brother and his friends because the game looked so unique compared to other sports. I love lacrosse because of a player’s ability to be creative, but to also add their own unique style to the way they play. My role models are Adam Ghitelman and Tobin Heath because they both have an incredible passion for what they do. I had the opportunity to train with Adam. He’s such a sick player and has this really chill yogi mentality which makes him so fun to be around. My inspiration definitely comes from my family because I want to make them proud.

What stick are you currently using?

The stick I use is the Eclipse head with a Dragonfly shaft. It’s been my setup since 6th grade.

I hear you are practicing with Mike Acee and 212 on the weekends? How did that get set up and how is that training benefiting you?

I’ve been working with Mike for as long as I can remember. He’s been my main coach in Utah since I started getting recruited and has remained so. He has honestly been my rock when it comes to lacrosse here because he continues to help me explore what I’m capable of. The training has benefited me in the sense that it has helped me prepare for the speed of college lacrosse.

When did you decide you wanted to continue playing beyond high school?

Ironically, I decided when I started to get recruited around 8th grade. Being from Utah, it’s not really something I thought of as a possibility. Girls committing to East coast schools was kind of unheard of when I was that age and I really just played for fun.

To what would you attribute your success on the lacrosse field?

I definitely attribute my success to my parents. They are the best because they are willing to drive me 12 hours to just get to the nearest tournament in places like California. I don’t know a lot of parents that are willing to do that and the fact that they have sacrificed so much to send me to play all over the U.S. is just truly amazing.

Tell me a little about the decision to forgo your senior year of lacrosse in order to graduate early and play at UNC?

Last spring my college coaches introduced the idea to me because academically it was a possibility, but the offer stemmed from the fact that I was unfortunately not getting the level of play to help me grow as a player and a person here in Utah. So when the coaches asked it just seemed like an offer that I couldn’t pass on. I’m really excited for this opportunity but it has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make because I won’t be able to experience being a senior and walking at graduation.

What made you decide to commit to enroll and play at UNC?

I decided to attend UNC because academically it’s an incredible school that can offer me amazing opportunities. On the lacrosse side, Carolina has an amazing coaching staff that is just so humbling to be around. I’m always in awe when I get to learn from them because they are so knowledgeable and they are the best at what they do. They are coaches that encourage creativity and growth and I feel like they will not only help me become better at lacrosse but most importantly a better person.

What are you looking forward to most out of your freshman year?

I’m really stoked to just be able to play with all the girls there because they are all so incredible at what they do and they are just so fun to watch let alone play with.

What advice would you give to younger girls who are interested in playing after high school?

I would say surround yourself with people who are successful and knowledgeable about college lacrosse. Also, find people that encourage you to achieve your dreams because that will take you a long way.

212 Wins 27th Championship Benefitting Graham Harden Cause

212 Lacrosse, based out of Park City, participated in the Sandstorm tournament this past weekend under the beautiful setting of Empire Polo Grounds in Palm Springs, California.  Sandstorm is the biggest club tournament in the west, with 371 teams participating this year.

The teams were led by Mike Acee (UNC), Christian Pompoco (West Minster) and Lauren Schmidt (Stanford/Team USA), John Webster (UNC) and Andy Towers (Brown).

The 212 HS Team (105-12 overall) finished the weekend in the Elite division with a 5-1 record.  They scored 61 goals and allowed 26 over 6 games, losing in the championship game to RC Elite 6-5 in overtime.  This makes two straight years the top two western teams have played for the Sandstorm championship, with 212 winning 7-6 in 2017.

The 2021 Girls’ team finished the weekend with a perfect 7-0 record in the 24 team division notching wins over WEST COAST STARZ 15-0, TENACITY Sacramento 15-2, TENACITY Houston 15-6, FUZION 14-4, 3D Oregon 11-4, 3D Colorado 8-1, and WEST COAST STARZ 7-3, winning 212’s 27th championship.

The 2021 girls improved their overall record to 33-7 with 5 tournament championships.

212 has a cumulative record of 241 wins 60 losses and 27 tournament championships with 46 players committing to play college lacrosse.

“This event was played in honor of my former teammate Graham Harden who is battling ALS. I’m extremely proud of all the 212 kids. As always, a big thank you to the entire 212 Lacrosse community. The support the parents show myself and our staff is tremendous. I’d also like to thank Lauren Schmidt (Stanford/Team USA),  Christian Pompoco (West Minster),  John Webster (UNC) and Andy Towers (Brown) for an excellent weekend of coaching and the Sandstorm directors for organizing another fun event for the kids.”
